Germany and Austria: six contracts signed 25 Sep to 9 Oct 2026

Six contracts from Germany and Austria were signed between 25 September and 9 October 2026 and have since appeared as award notices on TED, the EU's tender journal. Their values run from 443,772 EUR to 9,230,258 EUR. Together the six come to 23,398,633 EUR.

Four are road or civil works. One is the conversion of a waterworks, one is a district-heating pipe. This article reads each notice for what it states and for what it leaves out. Three road contracts: Stedesand, Maulbronn and Auerbach

Stedesand to Risum-Lindholm: 5,600 m of carriageway renewal

The Landesbetrieb Straßenbau und Verkehr Schleswig-Holstein, Standort Rendsburg, signed the renewal of the carriageway between Stedesand and Risum-Lindholm with STRABAG AG on 5 October 2026. The notice was published on 9 October. It gives a value of 9,230,258 EUR and a duration of 11 months. The description has one line:

Fahrbahnerneuerung auf einer Länge von 5.600m, Erneuerung der Asphaltschichten(Deck-/Binder-/Tragschicht /4cm/8cm/14cm)

That is carriageway renewal over a length of 5,600 m, with the asphalt layers renewed: surface, binder and base course at 4 cm, 8 cm and 14 cm, in the order the notice lists them. The notice gives a length and three thicknesses. The description says nothing about safety barriers, markings or drainage.

B 35 at Maulbronn West: temporary bridge, longer lanes, new cycle path

The Regierungspräsidium Karlsruhe, Baureferat Süd, Dienstsitz Freudenstadt, signed with STRABAG GmbH, Direktion Baden-Württemberg, Bereich Freudenstadt on 5 October 2026. The notice was published on 7 October. It gives a value of 7,561,117 EUR and a duration of 29 months. The title is "B 35, Ufg L 1131 und AVG bei Maulbronn West". The scope reads:

Ersatzneubau mit Behelfsbrücke Erweiterung Beschleunigungs- und Verzögerungsstreifen Bodentausch Straßendamm Neubau Radweg

The line has no punctuation. Read as four items, it is a replacement new construction with a temporary bridge, the extension of acceleration and deceleration lanes, a soil replacement under the road embankment and a new cycle path. The notice does not say which structure is replaced, and it gives no quantity.

B 533, OU Auerbach: civil works for the Staatliches Bauamt Passau

The Staatliches Bauamt Passau signed with KARL Bau GmbH on 25 September 2026. The notice was published on 8 October, 13 days later, the longest gap of the six. It gives a value of 2,659,996 EUR and a duration of 13 months. The title reads "Tiefbauarbeiten Spezialtiebau", evidently a typo for Spezialtiefbau, specialist civil engineering. The description names only the road and the place:

Beabsichtigung der Vergabe von Leistungen: Staatliches Bauamt Passau B533 OU Auerbach Ort der Ausführung: Auerbach

It names the B 533, "OU Auerbach" and the place of execution. There is no quantity and no list of items.

Herbolzheim: drainage and conduit works around a new rescue centre

The Stadt Herbolzheim signed with Trenkle GmbH on 9 October 2026, the latest signature of the six. The notice appeared on 12 October. It gives a value of 443,772 EUR and a duration of 5 months. The title is "Rettungswache Herbolzheim - Außenanlagen", outdoor works for a new joint rescue centre for the fire brigade and the DRK. Execution is planned to begin in October 2026. The scope sentence reads:

Der Leistungsumfang umfasst die Herstellung der erforderlichen Verkehrsanlagen, Entwässerungseinrichtungen sowie Leitungs- und Leerrohranlagen einschließlich aller Erd-, Rückbau-, Verfüll-, Anpassungs- und Nebenarbeiten.

The scope covers the traffic areas, drainage facilities, and pipe and empty-conduit systems, including all earthwork, demolition, backfilling, adjustment and ancillary work. It lists classes of work without a quantity. The classes fall under our drainage and precast concrete and pipes and pumps pages.

Two utility contracts: Reinheim water treatment and Salzburg district heating

Reinheim: a softening plant rebuilt while the waterworks keeps running

The Magistrat der Stadt Reinheim signed with WAT Membratec water technologie GmbH & CO KG on 30 September 2026. The notice was published on 7 October. It gives a value of 2,601,639 EUR and a duration of 24 months. The notice describes the renewal of the softening plant (Enthärtungsanlage) and says:

Die Aufbereitungsleistung des Wasserwerks soll erhöht werden. Die Besonderheit dabei ist, dass das Wasserwerk während des gesamten Umbaus in Betrieb bleiben muss.

The treatment capacity of the waterworks is to be increased, and the waterworks has to stay in operation during the whole conversion. The notice gives no capacity figure and no equipment list.

Salzburg: approximately 470 m of DN 500 district-heating pipe

The Salzburg AG für Energie, Verkehr und Telekommunikation signed with INTEGRAL Montage und Anlagentechnik GmbH on 28 September 2026. The notice was published on 7 October, 9 days later. It gives a value of 901,851 EUR and a duration of 24 months. The title is "Fernwärme Nord-West-Spange Abschnitt H Rohrbau", pipe construction for section H of a district-heating link. The description is:

Fernwärme Nord-West-Spange Abschnitt H (Bichlfeldstraße) DN500 vi da=800 ca. 470m

DN 500 is the nominal diameter, and da=800 is, in German pipe notation, an outer diameter of 800 mm. The length is approximately 470 m, marked "ca.". The notice abbreviates one further item ("vi"), which we do not expand. This is the one notice of the six where the pipe is the whole contract. It belongs on our pipes and pumps page.

What the six notices do not state

Only two of the six give a length: Stedesand with 5,600 m and Salzburg with approximately 470 m. The other four give scope without a quantity. None of the six names a supplier of any product. None gives a number of shafts, pipes, barriers, signs or luminaires, at least not in the text we read.

A TED notice is a summary, and the full bill of quantities may hold more. What we can state is what the text says. A contractor's name in a notice does not tell you where its material comes from.

All six notices appeared within 13 days of signature

The gap from signature to publication was 2 days for Maulbronn, 3 for Herbolzheim, 4 for Stedesand, 7 for Reinheim (30 September to 7 October), 9 for Salzburg and 13 for Auerbach. Across all contracts in our pool, the median over the last 30 days is 3 days and over the last 90 days 7 days.
